A Church That Grows
Over the past couple of months, I’ve heard some amazing testimonies. Part of Celebrate Recovery’s rhythm is hearing testimonies from people who are seeing God recover them from their hurts habits and hang-ups. A testimony is simply the story of your life before God, coming to faith, and your life now. Testimonies are stories of Growing more like Jesus in faith and Character.
We were blessed by having our Celebrate Recovery State Representative visit and share his testimony. While I cannot share any of the details, I can tell you that God does mighty things in people’s lives. It was inspiring to hear him share his story of growth. Then just a few weeks ago one of our Celebrate Recovery Leaders stepped up to give their testimony. Nervous but brave they shared their life and God’s role in their ongoing recovery. I know that I and many others were blessed to hear of God’s work. I share this for three reasons. First, to encourage you to come to Celebrate Recovery. Awana has ended for the Summer and Youth Group is slowing down. This is a perfect time for you to experience Celebrate Recovery. Second, testimonies knit God’s church together. If you imagine that Celebrate Recovery is just for “them”, but not for you then you’re wrong. If you think your hurts, habits, or hang-ups are not big enough, you are wrong. Come to Celebrate Recovery and see what God can do in others. Hearing their stories will impact your heart, make you realize you have a lot in common with them, and create a new love for God. Third, testimonies point you to God. When was the last time you heard someone’s testimony? When was the last time you shared your testimony? It’s good for us to reflect on all God has done and to hear others do the same.
We have perspective members of our church share their testimonies twice. Sometimes this is met with anxiety. We don’t do this to humiliate people or put an undue burden on them. No, we do this because we love to hear stories of Growth. We want to be a church that is constantly putting growing more like Jesus in faith and character in front of ourselves. One way to keep growing is to get good at sharing your testimony, your story of growth. We have a prime opportunity for you to share your testimony. Go Day is June 10th and while it is about Going it is also a good opportunity to grow more like Jesus in character. It is an opportunity to show a living testimony and to shine the character of Jesus. As you work side by side with one another an amazing thing will happen, you will grow closer to other disciples. You will share bits of your life as you pull weeds at the Community Garden. You will hear God’s love for someone as you rip up the flooring at Little Rock Ministries. Go Day is about providing our church an opportunity to Go together but also gives us an opportunity to Grow together too. I pray that we see you June 10th on the Eldora Square. Sign up below and let’s be a church that goes and grows.
