Good Friday Community Service & Holy Week Happenings

Holy Week is the week in the Christian Calendar from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday.  In this week the Christian community takes time to reflect on the wild turn of events from the celebratory welcoming of Jesus into Jerusalem with shouts of “Hosanna” to riot-like shouts of “Crucify Him” just a few days later.   This year Steamboat Baptist will be having a really memorable Holy Week with two significant services that will happen outside of Sunday mornings. 

The evening of Palm Sunday will have a church-wide time of Connecting with Jesus through prayer, worship, reflection, and experiential stations.  Throughout the church, there will be unique spaces to experience the power of Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection and to reflect on the salvation this Holy Week brought the world.  And being the evening of Palm Sunday, this will provide us the opportunity to consider how we may have been one of the crowd shouting “Crucify Him”. 

Then at the end of the week, our church is participating with the Pine Lake Ministerial Association in hosting a community Good Friday service at the South Hardin High School auditorium at 6 pm on March 29th.  This includes the two churches in Steamboat Rock and a number of churches in the Eldora area.  I think this could be a really meaningful time of connection and unity as we remember the crucifixion and the atoning death of Christ on the cross.  I think we may even take communion altogether as an inter-denominational identification with Christ.

For this Good Friday service, we will also be putting together a community choir to offer some musical reflections for the service.  Anyone would be welcome to participate in the choir, so please spread the word and have anyone interested reach out to me.  Rehearsals will be held at the Eldora Community Fellowship Church (formerly the Methodist church), each Thursday in March at 5:30 pm.  

With these two unique events, Palm Sunday Evening & Community Good Friday, there are still a few other meaningful items to note.  So, here is a brief rundown of all of what will be going on this Holy Week at Steamboat Baptist:

Sunday, March 24

-      Youth-led worship services at 8:30, 10, and 11:15

-      Experiencing Holy Week at 6pm 

Thursday, March 28

-      Final Community Choir rehearsal for Good Friday.  5:30pm at Community Fellowship Church in Eldora

Friday, March 29

-      Community Good Friday Service at 6pm at the South Hardin High School Auditorium

Sunday, March 31

-      Resurrection Sunday services at 8:30, 10, and 11:15

-      Brunch will be served from 9:15-11
