Go! Day Recap

First, I want to start we several thank yous. Thank you church for your giving, baking, prayers, and enthusiastic participation in Go Day 2024. We had so many delicious cookies and bars for our hungry volunteers. I am especially pleased with everyone’s prayers for good weather. We were incredibly blessed to not get rained on. Lastly, I want to thank the Go Day planning team. I know they wouldn’t want to be highlighted, but honestly, they were such a joy. A team of thoughtful go-getters that made the day run smoothly. So, Thank you to Curt & Dody Olson, Mike & Carmen McConnell, Gary & Linda Jensen, Terry & Barb Jensen, Steve & Shelly Johnson.

All told we partnered with several Wellsburg churches. The United Reformed Church was so hospitable and allowed us to use their facilities as a headquarters for the day. We received lists of homebound individuals so that we could deliver hot meals on the day. We delivered 10 meals and as Dody said she got to meet the nicest people while doing it. We also partnered with AGWSR and Justin Kerns to help put a first coat paint on the middle school’s cafeteria. I took a crew out to Timothy Christian to help Dale Akkerman paint several pieces of playground equipment and other items. Then near the Veteran’s Memorial in Wellsburg we painted the outside of a public restroom. We were also able to help an older lady get her summer couch out onto her porch. Twenty-five volunteers tackled these projects while over ten blood donations were given to Life Serve and food items were collected for St. John’s food Pantry in Ackley. We were able to finish all projects before lunch except one which only a small crew could work on.

I told everyone that morning that often we don’t know the impact of work we do for the Lord.

John 4:37 “Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true.”

Who knows the true impact of a painted swing set or a nice-looking park restroom? We’ll never know who receives the blood or food that was donated. But God does and God blesses our small works of mercy. We trust God with the increase and may he increase all our efforts to honor him and bless others.
