Family Bucket List for Spring
Spring is here and that means lots of opportunities to get outside with your kids or find some creative time to just celebrate new life. With every change of season, there are God-moments to celebrate and bring simple lessons about God alive to your kids. Here are a few spring activities and ideas to help motivate you. I’ve included a simple pdf that you can print, put into an 8x10 frame, and write on the glass with a dry-erase marker!
1. Grab the picnic blanket and host an informal “picnic dinner” on the grass in the backyard. Include a favorite food for each family member.
2. Visit a relative that you haven’t seen for a while. Bring a note of encouragement from your kids with a colored picture from them.
3. Go on a “spring color hunt” with your kids! Have the kids collect items that represent 5-7 spring colors (pink, red, blue, purple, yellow, orange, green, etc).
4. Go fishing at a local pond or river.
5. Collect items for other kids’ organizations in need such as a local Ronald McDonald House.
6. Do a “spring cleaning” in your home and have the kids choose some of their items to give to a child in need or in the hospital long-term.
7. Have a garage sale and give the proceeds to a missionary.
8. April showers keeping you inside? Spend time coloring Bible Story pages in the order of the Bible.
9. Find a local basketball court and play a little one-on-one (or them vs you) with the kids.
10. Decorate your home with spring kid crafts!
11. Spend some time in the Community Garden as a family.
12. Dust off the porch swing or patio furniture and read a good book aloud. Missionary biographies are great and super exciting!
13. Plan an afternoon to go pick strawberries.
14. Have the kids write their teacher a thank you note.
15. Visit another family you haven’t seen in a while and bring a yummy dessert to share.
16. Take each child out for a one-on-one date to make them feel special and really listen to them. Encourage them to give you some prayer requests just for them.
17. Meditate on some of these verses that have to do with spring, newness of life, or being aware of who God is.
Isaiah 61:11 For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign LORD will make righteousness and praise spring up before.
Hosea 6:3 Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.”
Psalms 1:3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.
Zechariah 10:1 Ask the LORD for rain in the springtime; it is the LORD who sends the thunderstorms. He gives showers of rain to all people, and plants of the field to everyone.
