Missions Moment on the Rock

Missions has been an important part of the ministry of Steamboat Rock Baptist Church for many years. We have supported missionaries around the globe, sent missions teams of adults and teens to serve and grow short-term in various parts of the world, and sent and supported members of our own congregation to serve as full-time missionaries. Our missionaries serve with at least eight different missions agencies, including seven with the North American Baptist Conference. We have also supported local and regional missionaries and organizations to meet various needs and share the Gospel closer to home.

The Missions Team at Steamboat Rock Baptist Church is charged with “extending and multiplying the influence of our congregation’s mission to care for others and make disciples by involvement and support of missionary work…”  The missions team helps to lead these efforts with help from team members in the following roles:

Missions Team Leader:  Joan Blair

Missionary Support Coordinator:  Bret Clikeman

Missions Immersion Coordinator:  Sandy Trampe

Local Missions Coordinator:  Sara Zellmer

Regional Missions Coordinator:  Vacant

Our missions team goals for 2024 are:

·         Send six people from our church to help facilitate an 8-week Alpha discussion series at the Boys State Training School in Eldora.

·         Send 15-25 people (adults and teens) from our church on a three-fold (construction, health, youth) international ministry trip in June/July

2024 to Guatemala.

·         Add one new missionary family for our church to support financially and prayerfully.

In the coming months, future articles will focus on these goals and each of the areas mentioned above. We will share how we are focusing on each of these areas of ministry, ways we all can partner with the missionaries and ministries we support, and ways that YOU can become involved as a member of the congregation.

Starting this month, we will begin to focus on a Missionary of the Month, so we all can become more familiar with the missionaries our church supports and ways we all can pray for them. (See below.)

Prayer Requests:

Pray for all the new students who have come on campus this semester. Pray we will meet them in the first couple of weeks.

Pray for our new students joining UNI, our new ministry team, new Bible Studies, and our monthly fundraising.

Keep praying for “H” and “S.”  They are in a hostile country and alone in their beliefs amongst family and friends. Pray that I can reach “H” and that I can maintain contact with “S.”

Favor with the University. I have been noticing pushback from some of the staff with whom I interact. I have a good relationship with the director, but under her, they do not like what we are doing.

Family, pray for our family. Life is full with children and homeschooling and we are grateful for God’s blessings. We have been incredibly thankful that we have had much less illness this year compared to last.
