The Parsonage Kitchen Remodel is Almost Complete
I wanted to share with you some photos of the very nearly complete parsonage kitchen remodel. The remodel was approved at the April congregational meeting. The Stewardship Team went with the bid from Travis Ringena, owner of Ringshank Construction. Thanks to Marc Roelfs, who has served as the point of contact for the contractors and helped with several decisions. Thanks also to Mike Bartling, who is the trustee focusing on the parsonage.
The work started in October. Difficulty with our order for the flooring delayed things a bit, but these photos show you how things turned out. We have had many days getting to know Adam Mast, one of Travis’ workmen, who did most of the demo and construction. Adam's daughter attends our youth group.
One major part of the project was the removal of the wall between the dining room and the kitchen. This really opened up this space. The transition required repainting the dining room. We also purchased a new lighting fixture for the dining room
The kitchen was designed with help from Jill Muller of Spahn & Rose Lumber in Reinbeck, IA. They provided cabinets and laminate countertops with a built-in sink. The design kept the peninsula but added an island. The island has already proved very useful.
Travis subcontracted with Buseman Electric who replaced our old center light fixtures with LED can lighting, installed a new panel to support several more outlets in the kitchen, and added under-cabinet lighting. All this lighting totally changes the space.
Jones Appliance delivered and installed GE Stainless Steel fingerprint-resistant appliances: refrigerator, over-the-range microwave, oven range, and dishwasher.
Greg Jones installed a new faucet, did the plumbing and heat supply. Greg and Travis were so considerate to keep some type of sink available in the space during all but a few days of the project.
Chad Starr installed the flooring, a great improvement from the previous worn floor! Adam had put in a lot of work tearing out several old layers of floor to level the original kitchen with the dining room and the previous addition’s flooring.
Besides opening up the wall between the dining room and the kitchen, the project moved the laundry room wall over 10 inches allowing for more people to move around the kitchen with ease. The old, hinged laundry room door was replaced with a pocket door to recover usable laundry room space.
We so enjoyed hosting our family in this great space this Christmas. We had 22 for Christmas Eve dinner with Mom and Dad. Our daughter-in-law walked in and said, “It is like you got a new house!”
We are grateful for the generosity, support, and forward focus of this congregation. Thank you for your investment in our family and in the future pastors and their ministries to this church family.
